When this phono gets close to the end of a record, it will skip and keep playing the same part over and over. Should I move it to 1.5g? Or is there a better cartridge for this phono?ģ. It is recommended that the stylus weight for this cartridge be between 1.0-1.5 grams. It has an Audio-Technica AT-331LP cartridge that came with it. If I stomp on the ground fairly hard anywhere in the room, the phono will skip. I have already set up the counterweight using a stylus force scale.Ģ. I cannot find an owner's manual anywhere. Should I change out the power cord to a more modern fused type? What about lubrication? I have a couple of questions regarding this phono.ġ. The arm up/down lever works and so does the cut switch. Sometimes you can find original replacements on eBay or you can try the Sorbothane aftermarket replacement feet.Recently picked up a Pioneer PL-25 in good condition. The rubber tends to degrade over time and the feet become brittle and break. The feet can be a problem with the PL-514 and a few other Pioneer turntables as well. There is also a Pl-514X version which is exactly similar to the PL-514 only it has a black base and control cover. Tonearm: static balance type, pipe arm (s-shaped).Platter: 320mm aluminium alloy die-cast.Without a speed adjustment there is no need for strobe either. If it is running a little too fast then the belt is probably not quite the right size. There is no speed control for the PL-514. There is the speed adjustment that switches between 33 and 45, the arm elevation lever and the anti-skate adjustment. All of the PL-514 controls are on the right side of the turntable and when the dust cover is closed, they are all protected. The tonearm is a medium mass, static balanced, S shaped arm. You’ll often see the PL-514 stripped of the old vinyl and redone in a more appealing wood grain veneer. However that was 35 years ago and this turntab. Unfortunately over the years this vinyl can peel and warp. The Pioneer PL-88FS (circa 1984) was supposed to be one of the better quality drawer loading record players. As you can see the particle board base is covered in a matte gray vinyl. Some of the PL-514’s other features include an anti-skating force control, a cueing device, insulator feet, detachable dust cover, universal plug-in type headshell and a 40mm thick particle board cabinet. It is semi-automatic which means it will shut off after the record finishes and lift and return the tonearm to its rest. Still, it is a good turntable and is mostly underrated. This big and heavy unit is in outstanding overall cosmetic condition. You will find the sound quality to be exceptionally good and very pleasing to the ear. A top quality Shure M44-7 cartridge with a brand new stylus is mounted on the tonearm. This unit was just serviced and is in perfect working order. It had minimal features and was marketed more toward the budget conscious buyer. PL-25 Turntable You are bidding on a beautifulPL-25 turntable.
